The Billings Ovulation Method® is not just for women who are trying to conceive or for those who are wanting to avoid pregnancy. It is knowledge that every woman ought to have. Why? Because it can help you to safeguard your reproductive health.
Changes in your cervical mucus are an accurate reflection of what is going on with your reproductive hormones. The chart you keep will be an accurate record of these hormonal events. Over 50 years of research and hormonal assays confirm this.
Author: Tess Livingstone
This dynamic book, with a Foreword by His Eminence, George Cardinal Pell, tells the story of two remarkable Melbourne doctors who developed a method of natural fertility regulation in response to the needs of Catholic families in Melbourne which subsequently achieved its greatest success in the largest Communist country in the world, China. With missionary zeal Drs John and Evelyn Billings took their Billings Ovulation Method® to the world, from the bustling slums of India to behind the Iron Curtain in the days of the Cold War, from the dust and heat of Africa to the carnival atmosphere of Brazil, travelling hundreds of thousands of air miles over more than a quarter of a century.
Meanwhile they each had busy medical practices, raised a family of nine children and wrote books about the Method, one of which sold over a million copies and was translated into 22 languages. All of this at a time of unprecedented social upheaval as a result of “sexual liberation” and the coming of “The Pill”.
Personal friends to three popes, the Drs Billings have left the world a remarkable legacy of knowledge which assists in protecting women’s reproductive health and is now continued by the work of WOOMB International Ltd.
Tess Livingstone, a journalist for The Australian and The Weekend Australian, is the author and editor of 12 other books on business, education, theology and a children’s book. Her work has been published in Australia, the UK and the USA.

This animation explains the changes in cervical mucus that you may experience throughout your menstrual cycle. Once you're familiar with these changes you'll be able to identify the fertile and infertile times in your cycles.
There are just four simple rules of the Billings Ovulation Method® which you can apply in all circumstances and at all stages of your reproductive life.
You can have irregular cycles when you're stressed or ill, when you're breastfeeding, when you've stopped taking hormonal contraception, or when you're approaching menopause. Sometimes there is an underlying hormonal disorder or other problem that needs medical investigation.
Knowing how to identify the fertile and infertile times in your cycles can help you to optimise your chances of achieving pregnancy. With the Billings Ovulation Method® you'll learn to understand the signs of fertility and to recognise your Peak day, which is the most fertile day in your cycle and very close to the time of ovulation. That way you'll know when you have the best chance of conceiving. At its simplest, it means having sex when you're aware of the slippery sensation that signals you are at your most fertile.
To achieve a pregnancy you apply the Early Day Rules of the Billings Ovulation Method® so you can clearly identify when you become potentially fertile. Once you notice a change from your Basic Infertile Pattern (BIP), wait without sex until you notice the slippery sensation. The slippery sensation means that you're at your most fertile, and that ovulation is very close. Sex over the days of the slippery sensation and the first day or two past the Peak will give you the best chance of conceiving.
